01 What happened

SAP announced open-source AI skills that automate most configuration work in migrating HTML5 applications from SAP Neo to Application Frontend service. The package, published on GitHub at SAP-samples/html5-applications-migration-skills-for-sap-btp, ships three skills: /appfront:migrate, /appfront:validate and /appfront:cleanup. It targets Cloud Foundry or Kyma runtimes and supports XSUAA and IAS authentication.

02 Key details

  • The skills migrate from SAP Neo and also HTML5 Repository apps using a managed or standalone approuter, on Cloud Foundry or Kyma.
  • /appfront:migrate copies the project to appfront-migrated/, proposes a migration plan, and changes nothing until approval.
  • Output includes xs-app.json, xs-security.json and mta.yaml; manifest.json and the UI5 bootstrap path in index.html are updated, Grunt artifacts removed.
  • SAP estimates time savings of about 85% for small, 82% for medium and 75% for large apps; end-to-end functional testing is excluded.
  • Prerequisites include an AI coding tool, Application Frontend service subscription, Cloud Foundry CLI and MBT; afctl is optional.

03 Why it matters

SAP Neo is approaching end of life, so HTML5 applications must move to the multi-cloud environment. Manual migration can take hours to days, and these SAP-built skills automate most of the configuration while preserving the original project.

04 Who it matters to

SAP developers and SAP system administrators.
